What will be included in Early Access?

Ground of Aces is launching into Early Access with a strong core experience. We’ve got a big roadmap ahead but we are also taking player feedback into account for future content and development priorities. Some features will be implemented during Early Access, others for the full release – or later. Check the roadmap.

Is the game only available on Steam?

Yes, Ground of Aces is currently only available on Steam. We plan to release it on Epic Games Store and GOG later – maybe around full release. This, too, depends on the success of the game.

Will Ground of Aces come to consoles or mobile?

If the PC/Mac release proves to be successful, we’d love to bring Ground of Aces to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 in the future.  
Right now, our focus is on the Early Access version for PC and Mac. We want to concentrate on depth and adding more features before expanding to other platforms.
Steam Deck support is currently experimental. We currently don’t plan to support mobile devices.

What are the inspirations for Ground of Aces?

We are inspired by free-form base building games like RIMWORLD and GOING MEDIEVAL, but also World War II strategy games like HEARTS OF IRON IV. For the art style, we take inspiration from “Bande Dessineé”, Franco-Belgian comics, with their “ligne claire” style.

In which state is the game and when is the release?

We have started a Closed Alpha for our Alpha Supporters on March 14, 2024. That Alpha will get updates in the time until the public Early Access release on Steam. We are expecting an Early Access release in 2025. You can check our roadmap here.

Will it be historically accurate?

It will be inspired by real-life history, but it won’t be historically accurate in every aspect. Compromises and creative liberties will be necessary to ensure an enjoyable game experience. The game still needs to be fun to play at the end of the day.

On which platform will it be playable?

We are targeting Windows PC as our main platform, since it is the most suited for the genre we are trying to build. It will also run on Mac computers. If the game launches successfully, consoles or mobile ports could potentially follow.

Who is developing this game?

We are Blindflug Studios, a Swiss & Polish indie game studio established in 2014. Our team consists of 14 members, who are from Switzerland, Poland, Ukraine and Slovakia. For almost ten years, we have specialised in creating entertaining games about meaningful topics. Like the nuclear war simulator First Strike with millions of players, the highly awarded Cloud Chasers migration rogue-like, the airplane action game Airheart which was developed cross-platform for consoles and received a Limited Run release, or Stellar Commanders, an original launch title for the Apple Arcade, developed in cooperation with Apple.

Did you use AI tools in the development of Ground of Aces?

In the past two years, AI and GenAI tools have made huge progress – and like many game studios, we are exploring how to use them responsibly. We are open to change in our toolchain, but also critical of processes that exclude human artists or rely on other creators’ work without permission.

Ground of Aces was made almost entirely without AI. All visual and gameplay assets were created by real humans. That said, we did use a few AI-supported tools in specific and transparent ways:

  • Crowdin Translation Platform: During the first free month, it offered optional AI translation suggestions. Our community translators could use them if they wanted. Today, all translations are 100% community-driven.
  • Concept Art Inspiration: Our artist Dave used AI-generated images as a starting point for inspiration when redesigning the main menu – the final artwork was entirely drawn and implemented by hand.
  • Marketing & Writing: Some of our emails and social media posts were drafted or corrected with the help of a language model.
  • Winston Churchill’s Voice (Thank you, Sir!): For our announcement trailer, we used an AI-generated voice clone of Winston Churchill – and we’ll likely use it again for future marketing content. 
  • Discord Bot: Back when GenAI was just taking off, we ran a little experiment: a Discord bot that painted portraits of community members based on their answers to silly questions. The results? Hilariously weird – and very much not canon.

In short: AI never replaced our artists, but we did use it in isolated, creative ways – always guided by the principle that tools should empower people, not replace them.

What is the price in Poland?

We’ve seen a lot of discussions about game pricing in Poland – and honestly, we agree. Steam hasn’t updated the regional pricing recommendations for years, and as a result, Polish players are often stuck with prices that just don’t match the local economy anymore.

So we ran the numbers ourselves – including tools like the Big Mac Index – and it turns out that the “official” Steam price would be over 57% too high. That just didn’t sit right with us.We’re a Swiss–Polish team, and we want our game to feel fair and accessible to Polish players. Based on the data, a fair price right now would be 85 PLN, which is the price we will be going with. Coincidentally, that also marks the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which began in July 1940. As a WWII airbase builder, this moment means a lot to us.
